A Comparison of Some Wait-free Communications Mechanisms
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents an overview and assessment of those fully-asynchronous interprocess communications mechanisms (ACMs) which can operate in a wait-free manner. Using such ACMs can avoid temporal constraints between processes (of the kind needed to implement a synchronised rendezvous) which may lead to deadlock and unacceptable performance. The method of analysis and the comparisons use reachability-searches carried out on Petri Net models of each mechanism, and this enables the correctness to be demonstrated and/or conditions leading to failure to be identified, and so provides a useful tool to aid the designer. ACMs may become important because increased use of asynchronous designs is likely in future complex integrated circuit chips and mobile multimedia systems.

Transparent Support for Wait-Free Transactions
This paper concerns software support for non-blocking transactions in shared-memory multiprocessors. We present mechanisms that convert sequential transactions into lock-free or wait-free ones. In contrast to some previous mechanisms, ours support transactions for which the set of memory locations accessed cannot be determined in advance. Our implementations automatically detect and resolve con...
متن کاملAre lock-free concurrent algorithms practically wait-free? Citation
Lock-free concurrent algorithms guarantee that some concurrent operation will always make progress in a finite number of steps. Yet programmers prefer to treat concurrent code as if it were wait-free, guaranteeing that all operations always make progress. Unfortunately, designing wait-free algorithms is generally a very complex task, and the resulting algorithms are not always efficient. While ...
متن کاملRepression-free utrophin-A 5’UTR variants
Mutation in the dystrophin gene results Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), an X-linked fatal neuromuscular disorder. Dystrophin deficiency can be compensated by upregulation of utrophin, an autosomal homologue of dystrophin. But the expression of utrophin in adults is restricted to myotendinous and neuromuscular junctions. Therefore utrophin upregulation throughout the muscle fiber can only be ...
متن کاملElectromagnetic waves a new tool for cellular communications
Distant cells can communicate with each other in a variety of ways. Electrical and chemical mechanisms are two known mechanisms for the establishment of intercellular connections. In recent years, research has shown that many cells influence each other's behavior by sending electromagnetic waves together. The existence of such connections can justify many unknown cellular behaviors. The article...
متن کاملA Theoretical Study on the Structure-Radical Scavenging Activity of Some Hydroxyphenols
Antioxidants are made for the struggle and reconstruction of the damaged cells, because of their ability in destroying the free radicals. On account of their importance, a theoretical procedure was applied for the study of the molecular structure and radical scavenging activity of six hydroxyphenols which have been introduced as antioxidant compounds. All geometry structures were optimized by M...
